The great German tour hope Emanuel Buchmann fell on the penultimate stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné and had to give up. His team Bora-hansgrohe initially left open whether and how badly the 27-year-old Ravensburger is injured and whether his start in the Tour de France is at risk.
Buchmann, who had previously shown a strong performance at the dress rehearsal for the Tour of France (August 29 to September 20), fell in the peloton on the descent from Col de Plan Bois.
His Austrian helper Gregor Mühlberger and the Dutchman Steven Kruijswijk, most important team mate of Tour favorite Primoz Roglic (Jumbo-Visma), also fell. Both had to give up too. According to his team, Kruijswijk has dislocated his shoulder.
Before the stage, Tour defending champion Egan Bernal (Ineos) got out with back problems on Saturday.
