Prague – Minister of Agriculture Miroslav Toman had a positive test for coronavirus. Ministry spokesman Vojtěch Bílý told ČTK today. According to him, the Minister is in contact with the Prague hygienic station and follows their instructions. Toman is the first Czech minister to have a positive test. Several members of the cabinet were previously only in preventive quarantine due to contact with an infected person.
Toman met with President Miloš Zeman in Lány on Wednesday. They discussed together, for example, coronavirus measures or the budget of the Ministry of Agriculture for next year. “The measures were complied with, the president is not endangered,” Zeman’s spokesman Jiří Ovčáček told ČTK today.
“As part of the performance of work duties, the Minister complied with all preventive measures, including wearing a veil and observing the distance during all personal meetings,” a spokesman for the Ministry of Agriculture told ČTK. He will not provide more information in agreement with the minister. The 60-year-old minister confirmed the positive result of the test to the Lidovky.cz server and wrote to them that he was feeling well so far.
For example, Foreign Minister Tomáš Petříček (ČSSD) or Minister of Transport and Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček (for YES) were previously in domestic isolation. Due to a positive test by the chief hygienist Jarmila Rážová, the then Minister of Health Adam Vojtěch (for YES) was quarantined. At the end of August, the coronavirus was confirmed in the Chamber of Deputies. Former Minister of Defense and Regional Development Karla Šlechtová (for YES) was tested positively and more than ten deputies were quarantined for a week.
