An Italian show, but the sun also shone for Meto Hrovat; Kranjec with number one

Meta Hrovat did not look too happy in the final after reaching the finish line, although she took the lead. Maybe she blamed herself for not taking the first route so uncompromisingly. In both sets, she skied the lower, flat part the best, where she often lost hundreds in previous seasons. Photo: Reuters

Meta Hrovat pointed out that in an unusual preparation period – the first time she tackled it in an individual team – she did everything necessary, but on the first track, when the competitors were hampered by poor visibility, she was not aggressive enough and lost too much on steep part. Only 13th time and almost two and a half seconds behind was much less than desired, but all this encouraged her to perform uncompromisingly in the finals when the sun was shining and climbed seven places with sixth time. “The first run was not the best. I was kind of looking for the whole ride. Somehow I didn’t have a real idea in my head how to run the track well. I’m glad I managed to show a better ride in the second, so in the end it’s a nice result.”

Vlhova from 10th place to the podium
At the match, which opened the 55th season of the Alpine Skiing World Cup, the morning outcome hinted that the Italians are the best prepared at the moment. With number two, Marta Bassino skied the icy slope extremely and very bravely, she never went out of the ideal direction. She had a 58 percent advantage over her closest follower Federica Brignone. In the final, she did not risk everything on the placement of her coach, but still maintained the advantage. The best was separated by only 14 hundredths. Slovakia’s Petra Vlhova climbed to third place with the first time in the finals, and she has not had a resounding achievement in Sölden to date.

Marta Bassino’s second victory among the elite
We are an exceptional team, we trained great in the summer, that is the result of that. I was already doing well in training, I am very proud of myself, I started the season completely,“said Marta Bassino, who celebrated her second victory in the World Cup. Federica Brignone was also second with her premiere success in Killington (last November). The Italian victory was completed today by Sofia Goggia, who shared 6th place with Meta Hrovat. .

On Sunday, Žan Kranjec and Štefan Hadalin
The new name among the top ten is 26-year-old American Paula Moltzan, who had a fourth-time final, finishing tenth and thus higher than last year’s Sölden sensation Alice Robinson. Wendy Holdener (26th place), who got injured in early September, surprisingly started and had the seventh time of the first run, then made a big mistake in the final. Ana Bucik also won points for the 21st place among Slovenians. Tina Robnik, who was the best Slovenian on the first course with the 11th result, resigned in the finals on the slope.

Žan Kranjec opens the giant slalom on Sunday
The Austrians, who did not draw more than 15th place in the Katharine Truppe, gave up, which is their worst start to the season. Due to back problems, Mikaela Shiffrin was not present at the opening station of the season and is expected to return to the next race in Lech, Austria, where the parallel giant slalom will take place on 13 November. On Sunday, the men’s giant slalom (10.00 / 13.15; broadcast on TV SLO 2) will take place in Sölden, where strict security measures are in place due to covid-19 (of course there are no spectators). Two Slovenians will compete: Žan Kranjec, who will even be number one opened the match, and Štefan Hadalin (number 45).
