Testing is scheduled to take place over the next two weekends. It is not clear whether testing of around 5.5 million Slovaks will be mandatory or voluntary.

The testing program is scheduled to begin next weekend at the largest covida-19 hotspots in the country. Then, on October 31 and November 1, elsewhere in the country. The medical staff will also be assisted by the police and the army. However, they plan to test similarly to the elections – at about 6,000 stations across the country.

Testing time zones will be organized in alphabetical order so that citizens do not gather in large numbers in front of test stations. Testing will also be free, the Slovak prime minister announced.

Hospitals occupied

The government has been preparing for this venture for the past three weeks and has ordered about 13 million antibody tests to ensure quick results. “If we succeed in this, we will become an example to the whole world,” he added Matovic.

In recent days, as in other parts of Europe, high numbers of new coronavirus infections have been recorded in Slovakia. On Saturday, 1968 new infections were recorded in one day, and the day before 2075. Hospitals are already facing problems due to overcrowding.

A total of 28,268 infections have been reported in Slovakia since the onset of the new coronavirus, and 82 people have died from covid-19.
