The coronavirus hit the former prime minister’s opposition right-wing party Next Italy the hardest Silvio Berlusconi, who some time ago also fell ill with covid-19 and then recovered. Among the deputies who were positive is also the leader of the party’s parliamentary group Maria Stella Gelmini.
The center-left parties have already called for the introduction of online voting. The proposal is currently under discussion, reports the Austrian news agency APA.
There are a total of 630 members in the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament.
In Italy, the number of new infections with the new coronavirus has risen sharply again in recent weeks. Since the start of the pandemic in February, covid-19 has killed about 36,000 people in the country. Nearly 11,000 new infections were reported on Saturday.
Due to the renewed aggravation of the situation, the government in Rome is expected to present further strict measures at the national level this evening with the aim of curbing the spread of the virus. Bars could close as early as 9 p.m., and restaurants at 11 p.m., the APA said.
