BANGKOK (Sputnik) – At least one military man died and 21 are reported missing after a landslide that struck a military base in Quang Tri province, in central Vietnam, the VNA agency reported.
The landslide occurred around 1:00 (GMT + 7) and affected the base of a military unit located in Huong Phung commune, burying 22 soldiers.
The rescue operation started only at 6:30 a.m., because many roads in the area are impassable due to the torrential rains that flooded at least 82 of the 124 districts of Quang Tri in recent days.
Around 9:30 am, the rescuers discovered the body of one of the trapped soldiers.
The news of a new landslide with fatalities came as the Vietnamese pay a posthumous tribute to 13 military rescuers who had died several days earlier in an attempt to help several workers trapped by a landslide at a hydroelectric plant in Thua Thien province. -Hue.
