Good news from the ISS: The crew has repaired the equipment that produces oxygen

The Electron-VM device, which is located in the Zvezda module in the Russian ISS segment, did not work from Wednesday. Roscosmos assured that the ISS crew did not endanger their lives, as there are oxygen reserves on the ISS and the US Tranquility segment has a facility serving the same purpose.

The Electron-VM system is capable of producing 25 to 160 liters of oxygen per hour and another 50 to 320 liters of hydrogen per hour. The principle of operation is based on the electrolysis of water with an alkaline electrolyte in a flow electrolyser, in which gas and liquid are separated in a mixture. TASS added that in April 2010, it took the ISS crew several days to repair the system failure.
